As with "car culture" on Earth centuries ago, there are those who pride themselves on the ability to modify their own spaceships.

Starship Design is a tier 3 Tech skill in Starfield with 4 ranks. Its tier unlocks after 8 skill points are spent on the lower Tech tiers. Ranks 2 through 4 each need a challenge completed before they can be bought.
